Are Airsoft Guns Safe For Kids?

Many parents who have slightly older kids may be getting pestered to allow them to buy or use an Airsoft gun or attend an Airsoft event. This leaves most parents asking Are Airsoft Guns Safe For Kids? Should I let my kids use them and what are the dangers of letting them near such products?

Airsoft is very similar to paintball, which is very popular all over the world. Airsoft events are organised by specialist teams and companies, where people can go an play games based around shooting each other, capturing objectives and generally having fun. These events are controlled by a strict code of practice and companies who offer them must have signed up with the relevant authorities to allow them to do so.

Like paintball, Airsoft can hurt you, unless the correct precautions are used. Helmets, goggles and padding must be worn and places that offer events will also enforce strict rules on how far away you must be before you can fire. They also forbid purposely shooting at someone in their head.

As long as the correct processes and procedures are followed, Airsoft is safe for children. Wearing goggles and a face mask or helmet are a must and any additional body padding can be used to help stop the impact of each of the small plastic rounds that an Airsoft gun fires. There should be an adult that is capable of enforcing the rules and uses of the weapons and also someone that is sensible and trustworthy.

As with any extreme sport or play that involves strenuous activity, there will be an element of risk involved. For children under the age of 16 or 21, the parents may need to sign a waiver or disclaimer, stating that they understand the risks involved and that their child is also fit and healthy enough to participate in such a sport or activity. As with paintballing, small bruises may be left by the impact of the Airsoft pellets, but these usually fade after a few days. In some circumstances, the skin may be broken but the wound is only very slight and will heal very quickly.

So in summary, the answer is that Airsoft guns are safe to use provided that the child in question can follow rules and orders. Provided that they are under the guidance of a responsible adult, there should be no reason why they cannot participate in Airsoft activities and games.

Buying Airsoft guns is also easy and they can be ordered from many different Internet websites, without the need to prove your age or consent.
